Chip-enabled devices have become commonplace in a wide range of sports disciplines,
as TC Praha shows in its analysis of patent applications and scientific papers in TC Spotlight.
The use of individual chips and sensors has shifted over the past 15 years from measuring individual variables of an athlete's performance to using complex systems for data analysis, modeling and prediction, often in a personalized solution and with real-time response.
See the attached infographic to learn more about what types of chips are used, how they are used, and in which sports.
"With the help of smart technology, coaches can react in real time to changes in the performance of their athletes and change strategy accordingly, or detect risks of injury early on, referees can make more accurate decisions, and spectators can receive information about results or expert assessments of the game immediately and clearly," says Kristýna Meislová, analyst at TC Praha,
"We saw it at this year's Olympics or championships, chips have become quite domesticated in sports, and we will see more and more sophisticated solutions."
